It is widely recognised that learning doesn’t just take place in the classroom, and at GDST schools we ensure that a wide range of extra-curricular activities develop the confidence and leadership skills of our students.

After the Scouts and the Girl Guides, the GDST enters the largest number of participants in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards every year, with many achieving Gold Award.

Many of our students participate in World Challenge expeditions – last year one of our high schools refurbished a school in the jungles of Ecuador as part of their trip there.

Most GDST schools enter teams in the annual Young Enterprise, and last year Jinx, a team from Oxford High School GDST, reached the national finals with their project to produce and sell a children’s book and associated merchandise.

Most schools have a range of clubs and societies to cover every interest – as well as sports and music, extra-curricular activities include technology clubs, debating, Amnesty International, book clubs, chess and knitting groups.

Most schools also involve their students in charitable fundraising and volunteering activities, realising that their need contributes to the wider community in which they live.
