Heathfield Sixth Form

Our students are given unique opportunities to develop the skills for high academic achievement and leadership. Sixth Form class sizes are small and students take greater personal responsibility for their own learning. Within the Sixth Form the students are offered the following:

  • Four/five subjects at AS-Level in the Lower Sixth and continue with three/four A-Levels in the Upper Sixth with a choice of 26 subjects
  • Year 13 students can enter for the Advanced Extension Awards
  • Year 12 and 13 students can take part in the Open University YASS programme for students to extend their knowledge and learning. This enables students to start gaining university units in the Sixth Form
  • Membership to the NAGTY scheme for the gifted and talented. Approximately 60% of our students qualify for this membership which is exclusive to the top 5% academically in the country
  • Entry to the Sixth Form is dependent on a minimum of five GCSEs a grade C or above along with A*, A or B in the subjects to be studied at AS-Level

We also offer places to new girls at Heathfield School. Subjects available are:

At the end of Year 11 students attend an Induction Programme to the Sixth Form.

Teaching is supported by visits to lectures, conferences, exhibitions, art galleries and theatres, as well as by residential field trips in Geography and Biology and trips abroad.

All students follow a non-examined General Studies programme which includes Careers Guidance and outside speakers. Mandarin is studied by a number of our students.

There are a number of extra-curricular activities to become involved in.

The girls have access to their own Common Room with fully equipped kitchen facilities, study room, ICT room, specialist subject teaching rooms and dedicated Sixth Form area as well as having full access to whole school facilities with designated times for sole use of the fitness suite. The girls no longer need to wear uniform, and can study at home after midday if they have no lessons. However, they are expected to participate fully in the life of the school.

The Head Girl, two Deputy Head Girls and Prefects help the staff in the running of the school, whilst others develop qualities of leadership through organising clubs and societies in the main school, running the School Council, serving as tutors’ assistants and helping in the Junior Department.

Sixth Formers take part in a unique leadership programme, designed to enable students to acquire the necessary skills for leadership.

Sixth Formers also continue to take part in our musical and dramatic performances, sports teams and other extra-curricular activities.

Every student automatically becomes a life long member of Minerva. Established in 1994, the Minerva Network is a networking and communications channel for all GSDT schools. It helps students to focus on their future direction and provides a network of social and professional contacts.
