At GDST schools we take fitness seriously.

Students at GDST schools have a range of physical activities in which they can and do participate

Whether a student wants to compete or to simply keep fit, there is a physical activity available at a GDST school that she will enjoy and benefit from.

These include non-competitive fitness related activities like dance, pilates, self-defence and yoga; and outward bound activities (including the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme).

Of course, for those who enjoy a more competitive challenge there are countless team and individual sports on offer, including athletics, tennis, hockey, netball, lacrosse, football, basketball, gymnastics and many, many more.

Captaining a school sports team is another way that GDST students can develop their leadership skills

In many GDST schools responsibility and recognition are given to those who display leadership in sports and PE. We aim to teach the values of commitment, team spirit, loyalty and sportsmanship.

The influence of female-dominated PE department staff as role models for girls is also substantial.

Exercise is a vital part of nurturing rounded, balanced individuals and is actively encouraged at all GDST schools

We encourage a policy of sport for all.

The goal of physical education is to create an environment that challenges and stimulates all young people so that they are naturally motivated to participate in a wide variety of sports activities. We aim to support all pupils to develop their sporting potential to the full.

GDST schools achieve good sporting results and rewards
